Our Positions guide the industry and government agencies to incorporate the needs of our members to successfully conduct business.

USA-ITA stands for:

The end of the protectionist policies that treat textiles and apparel as a separate sector.
Modernization and simplification of Customs entry procedures.
Opposition to import monitoring and other disruptions to the sourcing networks and supply chains of USA-ITA member companies.
Broad reform of U.S. trade preference programs to expand benefits to developing countries and create a simplified, uniform Rule of Origin for textiles and apparel.
The elimination of tariffs on consumer products, ending the regressive tax on America's poorest families.

Membership

The United States Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) was founded in 1988 by nine companies. A non-profit industry association, we represent the interests of the textile and apparel importing community before Congress, the Administration, U.S. Customs, the business community and the public.

Our website, informational webinars and seminars, up-to-the-minute memoranda, newsletters, and Washington, DC, staff update importers on relevant business and trade issues. As a unified voice for the industry, USA-ITA has access to those in the Washington trade community who shape the policies that affect the importing community. Membership in USA-ITA is open to US-based companies involved in the importation of textile and apparel products.

The Issues

USA-ITA's most important member benefit isinformation and analysis. We keep members up-to-date on the issues affecting their businesses, and we advocate on their behalf when needed. Our current issues include:

  • Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
  • Plus 1 for Haiti
  • Chinese currency fluctuations
  • CPSIA implementation & amendments
  • CPSC public databases
  • Customs initiatives

We also participate in several coalitions of different industry groups. Visit our Coalition Letters page to view recently-submitted comments.
